I watched the video footage taken by Compassion In World Farming which David Hammond mentioned in his letter (October 31) about the resumption of live exports through Dover.
As I watched the lorries full of lambs speed round the roundabout at the entrance of the port, I was convinced the film had been speeded up.
So I ran it back and watched people walking in the port entrance and, to my horror, the film was running at normal speed.
Those observing at the port said legs were sticking out of the side slats on the lorries.
It appears no inspections were made by State Veterinary Inspectors or anyone from the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) before loading took place.
The lorries rolled on to the ship and away to an unknown destination. Never mind what the paperwork says, there's nobody to check the animals aren't transferred to another lorry on arrival and sent down to Greece, Southern Spain or Italy.
Before this Government came to power, it said it would stop live exports by strictly enforcing the regulations.
Now it is in power, it hasn't even backed up attempts by some European countries to limit the hours of transportation to eight hours maximum.
