Having just seen the article about fly-tipping in Brighton and Hove, I have to say I am not the least bit surprised (The Argus, October 27).

While the city council promotes recycling and the disposal of rubbish responsibly, Hove Tip is open for very limited hours over the weekend, which is the only time many of us have.

Added to this there are now many items which, if they do not fit into the famous wheelie bin, have nowhere else to go apart from the tip - which is not open for long enough over the weekend - just three hours on a Sunday.

Last Sunday, my husband and I filled our vehicle with our own rubbish - together with that of a neighbour - to make our trip worthwhile.

Knowing that Hove Tip is only open for a short time, we arrived a little after 10am and joined the queue waiting for the tip to open at 10.30am.

We joined the queue at the end of Leyton Road with only room for one or two cars behind us. When the tip finally opened at 10.30am, traffic was queuing out of Leyton Road and in both directions along Old Shoreham Road.

Can anyone tell me why Hove Tip is open shorter hours than other tips in the area - Shoreham is open for much longer and I believe Brighton is as well.
