Andrew Alleyne cannot wait to tackle Birmingham Bullets and his old mate Yorick Williams.

When that game comes around, it will mean he can finally stop thinking about the latest defeat he suffered with Genesis Brighton Bears.

Alleyne has been battling away harder than ever as cocaptain to try and help Bears climb the British League table.

But, as Williams and the improved Bullets head to the Brighton Centre on Sunday (5pm), the 6ft 8in Bajan Bear admitted: "I can't get used to not winning."

Alleyne is now in his third season with Bears and this is proving the toughest of the lot after six defeats in nine games against BBL rivals.

Speaking after the latest setback, to Guildford on Wednesday night, he admitted: "I'll be thinking about the game from now until Sunday.

"I'll be looking back to see what different I could have done to help us win.

"I'll go over and over it in my mind until Sunday.

"I just want to win. On the last two Brighton teams I was on we were winning games.

"The first year I was here we won the league and made it to the final of the Trophy.

"Last year we won the Cup and made it to the final of the Trophy. Every year I have become accustomed to winning.

"It's hard right now. I'll fight hard and do anything to get my team winning.

"If we beat Birmingham we go to 4-4 in the league and that would be good for us.

"But I'm used to being in the top two or three so it's kind of disappointing to look at the league and see us in sixth."

The danger from Birmingham appears to be former Bears skipper Williams, though his desire to play abroad has returned to the agenda of late after he returned to the England international set-up.

Williams is clear to play despite being ejected against Leopards in a recent BBL Trophy game.

Small forward Jeff Bonds, though, looks just as big a threat. The 6ft 7ins American summer signing is averaging a double-double and was named the BBL's top player for October on the back of formidable shooting percentages of 68 (2pt), 50 (3pt) and 72 (free throws)

Nick Nurse, though, believes the temptation to steal the show will prove too much for his former captain. The Bears coach said: "I would imagine Mr Williams will try and and put 40 points on us. Birmingham have some talent, some depth and we were fortunate to get away with a win at their place on opening night."

That one finished 96-95 to Bears after they had led comfortably.

They field the same team as that night given that Lijah Perkins, who signed after the first Birmingham game, has now moved to the French third division after failing to impress at Brighton.

Worthing Thunder will look to avoid bottom spot in their BBL Trophy group when they go to London United tonight.

Neither team has a realistic chance of going through to the semis but Thunder will be anxious to find some form ahead of their home clash with Nottingham in EBL division one tomorrow (8pm).
