Eastbourne Borough boss Garry Wilson has told his players to grasp the opportunity to write their names in FA Cup folklore tomorrow.
Borough's part-timers take on League Two outfit Oxford United in the first round at a packed Priory Lane knowing victory would guarantee them a place in the competition's giantkilling history.
A crowd of more than 3,000 is expected to roar the Conference south side on for the high noon showdown with Brian Talbot's team and Wilson is determined his players will not leave the field with any regrets.
"You only get one bite of the cherry so you have got to take the opportunity when it comes along," said Wilson.
"We've waited a long time to get to the first round and might not get the chance again, so let's make the most of it.
"When we played Bishop's Cleeve in the last round it seemed they had almost accepted defeat before the game because we were from a couple of divisions above them.
"I won't allow my players to think that way at all. Some people might think we have done well to get this far but I want to go further.
"Maybe this is our year. The last five or six seasons we've been flying in the league but disappointing in the Cup so maybe it is the other way round this time."
It is the first time Borough have reached the first round of the FA Cup and they have never faced League opposition in a competitive fixture before.
The odds appear even more stacked against them considering they go into the game low on confidence having lost five of their last six league games.
But Wilson will remind his players of the giantkilling feats of fellow non-league clubs Stevenage Borough and Sutton United in the Cup as they attempt to rip up the form book.
"We will have to raise our game to a completely different level if we are to have a chance," admitted the Borough boss. "But I just have this little feeling in the back of my mind that we can do it.
"We know Oxford have better players than us, will be fitter and more organised so all I can ask for is that my players show the kind of grit and determination which has got the club to where it is over the last few years.
"You can't just switch on form because it is the Cup but, hopefully, the fact that there will be a bigger crowd and cameras at the game will make a difference to the way we have been playing recently."
Wilson will disappoint a few players when he finally decides on his starting XI.
He faces a straight choice between Yemi Odubade and Dan Marney as Scott Ramsay's partner up front while Ben Austin is in contention after recovering from injury but has not played for six weeks.
Anthony Storey is struggling with an ankle injury, Matt Crabb and Danny Williams definitely miss out while the on-loan Dean Cox is unavailable and Stuart Playford is Cup-tied.
Talbot also faces a selection headache up front as Oxford have managed to score only twice in their last six League matches.
He is likely to drop Wales international Craig Davies in favour of a three-pronged forward line of Chris Hackett, Eric Sabin and Steve Basham while former Manchester City striker Lee Bradbury is expected to be on the bench.
The Us are boosted by the return of skipper Chris Hargreaves after the midfielder returned from seven weeks on the sidelines with a punctured lung when he came on as a substitute last Saturday while defender Jon Ashton plays with a broken nose.
Borough: Hook, Baker, Hemsley, Tuck, Austin, Warner, Rowland, Smart, Atkin, Ramsay, Odubade. Subs: Lightwood, Simmonds, Piper, Marney, Fazakerley.
Oxford: Turley, Ashton, Roget, Willmott, Mansell, Hargreaves, Quinn, Robinson, Hackett, Sabin, Basham. Subs: Bradbury, Davies, Tardif, Stirling, Hughes.
