A sewage treatment scheme will make life better for people along the South Coast, according to its architects.
Richard Price, director of Southern Water's scheme to build a £200 million sewage plant in Peacehaven, said the works would make the sea cleaner for everybody.
He said: "Both Brighton and Hove and Peacehaven will benefit from cleaner seas because of the scheme.
"The decision to choose Peacehaven as the site came after consultation with East Sussex County Council and followed a selection process lasting three years."
He said the European Union's decision to censure Britain over its polluted seas demonstrated the need for the plant.
Mr Price welcomed Brighton and Hove City Council's endorsement of the plans, given at a meeting of the planning committee on Wednesday.
