Harry Collier was working as a waiter in an organic cafe in London when the staff called him over to sing Happy Birthday to one of their customers - who turned out to be none other than Rollo Armstrong, Faithless member and brother of Dido.
Rollo asked Harry round to his studio, triggering a chain of events culminating in Harry turning down an existing offer from One Little Indian and starting afresh with a new band: Kubb.
The gamble seems to have paid off: Their debut album, Mother, released November 7, has been hailed by The Times as a record which "could well launch them to the level of Coldplay".
Throw in other influences from Radiohead and Jeff Buckley, plus a dose of Caribbean and Cornish surf-rock from Harry's geographically varied upbringing, and you've got a band who could be destined for great things. This may well be your last chance to see them in a venue this small.
Starts 7.30pm, tickets cost £7. Call 01273 699069
