Joan Mills, amateur singer and one-time showbiz reviewer for The Argus, has died at the age of 83.
Mrs Mills was born into one of the oldest fishing families in Brighton - the Gillams were named in the Domesday Book.
She began her singing career with the Crescent Operatic Society and performed mainly in the chorus but occasionally as a soloist in musicals at the Dome, Brighton.
In the late Sixties she moved to the Starliners Variety Group and she later ran her own group, Personalities, which performed shows including Christmas concerts for old folks clubs throughout Sussex.
Mrs Mills more recently sang in the choir at Dorset Gardens Methodist Church in Brighton.
She reviewed numerous concerts and shows for The Argus, including Cliff Richard, the Brighton Theatre Group, Chris de Burgh and the Brighton and Hove Operatic Society.
Her last review, of a Daniel O'Donnell show at the Brighton Centre, was in 2002 when she was 81.
Mrs Mills, widowed in 1983, leaves three sons, five grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.
Her funeral will be at Woodvale Crematorium, Brighton, on Saturday at 11.15am.
