This past couple of weeks there has been a major traffic blockage in and around the North Worthing area.
The gridlock extends from Findon Road to the north and from the west in Arundel Road, to the Offington Corner roundabout to the Grove Lodge roundabout, south to Broadwater Green and to the east as far as Lyons Farm.
The whole of this blockage is caused by the traffic lights now in place at the Grove Lodge roundabout.
I will not mention the dangerous lane-swapping problems because I know readers have already aired their views on this.
I always believed the intention was to keep the traffic flowing along the major routes. I do not ever remember the traffic being fast before so did it need calming? What is the purpose of the lights?
Sitting in traffic queues now from all directions, even on a Sunday, is not only frustrating but also polluting the atmosphere with many engines running idle. With the time loss and fuel being used, this is also uneconomical.
Another problem exists at Lyons Farm. There was a slip road, which motorists could join at the top of Morland Avenue to travel west along the A27 but traffic lights have now been installed there, too.
What does this mean? Traffic wanting to travel east along the A27 or go up to Lyons Farm is now blocked in at Morlands Avenue until the lights change and the traffic clears - even when the A27 is clear.
What a nonsense! Do the designers live and travel in Worthing?
Working and travelling around Worthing is no longer enjoyable.
I think it is time all us motorists who pay for fuel and associated car taxes stand up for ourselves and demand a say in changes which affect us so severely.
