Lewes fought back from a two-goal deficit to earn a fully deserved 2-2 draw in appalling conditions at Dorchester Town in Conference south.
The home side went ahead when Alex Browne headed home a corner from the left after 14 minutes.
Nine minutes later, they doubled their lead when Justin Keeler sneaked in behind the Lewes rearguard to toe the ball past onrushing keeper Paul Wilkerson.
It could have been even worse for Steven King's men before the interval with Magpies' midfielder Ryan Moss hitting a post with a 20-yard pile-driver.
However, after that escape, the Rooks dominated the remainder of the encounter and once Dean Brennan had headed home a Kirk Watts cross to reduce the arrears four minutes after the restart they laid siege to the Dorchester goal.
Home keeper Nick Jones made an excellent save to deny Jean-Michel Sigere but, with 11 minutes remaining, the hero turned villain when he spilled a harmless-looking Watts cross, leaving Brennan with the opportunity to bundle home his second of the game to salvage a 2-2 draw.
The result lifted Lewes one place to sixth in the table.
A stunning first-half performance sent Hastings United on the way to a 4-0 win at home to Ryman League division one leaders Dover Athletic.
All the goals came in the opening half an hour as Hastings ripped into their Kent rivals right from the kick-off.
The win saw Hastings close the gap on Dover to three points.
Sam Adams struck the first blow after seven minutes with a precise cross-shot that went in off the far post.
Shaun Loft doubled the advantage on 16 minutes after being set up by Adams and, soon after, Loft claimed his second with a close-range finish.
Things got even better for the home side when a Duncan McArthur free-kick took a couple of deflections before finding its way into the back of the Dover net.
Dover were a huge disappointment and offered next to no threat at the other end of the pitch as Hastings eased to a comfortable win.
Fleet Town proved a game too far for Horsham's stretched squad as they fell to a 1-0 defeat.
Missing six first team regulars including their entire midfield, the visitors were straight on the back foot and Fleet took the lead from a fifth-minute corner.
Will Packham saved an initial header but could only push the ball out to James Rose who crashed home an angled drive from close range.
Tom Graves cleared off the line before Horsham began to find their feet and Jamie Taylor had three good efforts saved by home keeper Justin Gray.
In the 33rd minute the striker went even closer, firing in a superb 25-yard free-kick that was heading for the top corner before Gray somehow flung himself across goal and pushed the ball wide.
The second half was almost devoid of chances as Fleet worked hard to close the ball down and the depleted Hornets side lacked the creativity to make the breakthrough.
Mile Oak booked an FA Vase second round tie at home to Deal Town after a fabulous 4-1 win in their replay away to Slade Green.
Anthony Whittington's side stormed into a two-goal lead inside the first ten minutes as Chris Paine set up the first for Mark Curram and then skipper Steve Porter scored from Ryan Sargent's corner.
Porter powered in his second of the game from a Sargent free-kick early in the second half only for the hosts to pull one back 20 minutes from time.
But Slade Green lost their discipline and the match, having two players sent off before Tony Burnett wrapped up victory following a good advantage by the referee.
Worthing, missing seven regulars, gave a debut to keeper Dave Leaver as they beat Horsham YMCA 2-1 in the Sussex Senior Cup.
Stafford Browne's 15th goal of the season put the Rebels ahead but Matt Duffield levelled before the break.
The tie was settled just past the hour mark when the in-form Richard Pacquette hit his eighth of the campaign.
Crawley will today begin interviewing for the vacant manager's job.
The Conference club will see five applicants and another three tomorrow.
They are hoping to have someone in place in time for Reds' next league game against Southport on November 12.
