Scott Ramsay has warned his Eastbourne Borough team-mates they must not be overawed by the occasion if they are to pull off an FA Cup shock against Oxford United on Saturday.

A record crowd is expected at Priory Lane to see Borough's first venture into the first round proper of the world's most famous knockout competition.

Garry Wilson's side usually play their homes games in front of just over 700 but five times that number will be roaring them on for the high noon showdown with Brian Talbot's League Two outfit.

Borough's only previous experience of the big match atmosphere came in the Conference regional play-off final at Stoke's Britannia Stadium in May.

Wilson accused his players of succumbing to stage fright on that occasion as they went down 2-1 against Altrincham to miss out on promotion to the Conference National.

Ramsay is determined history will not repeat itself on Saturday.

He said: "It is one of the biggest games in the club's history and the crowd is likely to be a lot larger than we usually get for home games.

"That could give us a lift but at the same time it could go the other way and work against us. Hopefully everyone will be professional enough to do their jobs because I fancy our chances if we play to our potential.

"The Cup has brought the best out of us this season and it is a competition where anything can happen so we will be giving it everything we have got to try to make the second round."

Ramsay has scored in every round of the competition so far and would love to extend that run by scoring against a side sitting 55 places above Borough on the football ladder.

"I want to score in every game but it doesn't really matter who gets the goals on Saturday as long as we get through," he added.
