Athlete performing live make you want to go and learn how to play a guitar, or maybe even a fancy keyboard which can sound like an entire orchestra.
There are only four of them but they can make a spectacular noise and do so with gusto.
Lead singer Joel Pott told the audience that the last time they played in Brighton was to a crowd of just 600.
They have clearly built up a loyal following over the years as the gig was packed with fans who knew each song nearly as well as the band themselves.
Their set included their breakthrough hits You Got The Style, Westside and El Salvador plus virtually every track from their latest album Tourist.
An impressive lighting display made the most of the simple stage design Im not sure what the petrol pumps were all about but the pumpkin lanterns were a nice touch and set off the swooping choruses of tracks such as Chances.
The final song of the main set was recent hit Wires, which was simply stunning. Another highlight was the beautifully sweet Street Map, complete with projected street map images of London and Brighton.
They finished their encore with what will be their new single, 24 Hours, the chorus of which was still going around in my head the next day.
Even if you do not consider yourself to be a particular fan of Athlete, seeing them live will change your mind.
