Every country in Europe which is not affected by bird flu must start preventative measures at the source - the birds themselves.
The vaccine being processed to combat this outbreak should be given to the poultry farmers who, after confining their birds for two days without water, should give them water containing the vaccine. Prevention at the source is far more sensible than to wait for the flue to be caught by farmed birds, then passed to their keepers and then the general public.
A vaccine must be made available to the public as soon as possible. Bird flu could take a year to reach our shores. If this is only half true, this is plenty of time for scientists to make the vaccine available for everyone, including the birds themselves.
If this vaccine then works, governments and public can breath a sigh of relief.
