Dozens of anti-war protesters dressed as witches and ghouls for a Hallowe'en demonstration outside a weapons parts factory.

About 60 people congregated outside the EDO MBM Technology factory in Home Farm Road, Brighton, yesterday to protest about the company's indirect involvement in the Iraq war.

Parts for war planes and tanks plus bomb-guiding equipment are designed and built at the factory.

Protester Sarah Johnson, 29, said: "Hallowe'en is a time to contemplate death. EDO should think about death because that is what is happening in Iraq because of what they are doing.

"We want to stop EDO from making these evil components that contribute to the deaths in Iraq."

Protesters spoke on megaphones and banged drums in a lively but peaceful protest for two hours.

Today protesters were in the High Court for a pre-trial hearing with EDO to discuss points of law about an injunction against them.

EDO currently has an interim injunction preventing protestors from standing in the road outside the factory, going to employees' houses and photographing and filming EDO staff and sub-contractors including security staff. The civil trial to determine whether a permanent injunction will be granted is expected to begin on November 21.

EDO was unavailable for comment.
