So Onyx is considering withdrawing its application to build a waste dump in Hollingdean Lane to rewrite and resubmit it (The Argus, October 14).
Firstly, we are told Onyx is reapplying with a lower capacity - 160,000 tonnes of rubbish per year. This was always its stated operational estimate and, were they to get approval, it would be easy to get subsequent approval to extend the scheme's capacity.
Secondly, it is to include an extension between the dump and Downs Infants School to lessen the effect of noise and pollution. In my opinion, this is an admission that the effects of the Onyx/Cityclean project will be bad for the health of children and residents.
