"You need a bit of luck. You need to keep working hard, always try to be a trendsetter, not a follower. But it always comes down to luck," say the Mitchell Brothers.
The pair made their own luck with a nifty "reverse pickpocket manouevre" on Mike Skinner, slipping a demo into his pocket while he was queuing at a cash machine.
Skinner called the number on the CD and Teddy and Toni became the first signings to his The Beats label.
After inviting Teddy to guest on Fit But You Know It, Skinner lent his production nous and several cameos to their debut album A Breath Of Fresh Attire, written while they were selling T-shirts on The Streets' US tour.
Aiming mostly for the funny bone while attempting to tug on the heartstrings every now and then, it's a rowdy and very English record full of infectious choruses and comic book banter.
It sees the cousins the nickname was given to them due to their constant bickering shoplifting (Harvey Nicks), being drunk and disorderly (Excuse My Brother) and berating the dole for only giving them enough money for "nine new DVDs from HMV" (GORGIE).
They've been described as a "British Outkast" in some quarters, which is going a little too far, but they will certainly appeal to fans of The Streets (obviously) and Goldie Lookin' Chain.
No one's quite sure why they're not bothering the charts yet. Hopefully this tour will rectify that.
