Brighton Bears were left dazed by a mesmerizing start from an inspired Chester Jets yesterday.
Brighton had no answer to Jets' 6ft 7ins forward Shawn Myers who spearheaded the home club's charge with 21 points in the opening half of the BBL Cup quarter final clash.
Brighton trailed 26-14 after the first quarter and 52-30 at half time despite Steve Parillion punctuating Chester's raids with 11 points in the first half.
Parillion did his level best to reduce Bears' arrears in the third quarter when he netted 13 points to take his game tally to 24 but Brighton trailed 69-56 after the third quarter.
Bears faced an uphill battle down the final stretch but Parillion was not prepared to stand aside and see his team just roll over.
Andrew Alleyne provided support in the paint with a number of jump shots as Brighton looked determined to go down fighting.
But McGee fouled out when Bears were trailing 78-65 after impeding Myers who had received a huge assist by Davis.
Jets saw young English guard John Simpson suffer his fifth foul six minutes from time and Corey Jackson nailed a two point effort to see his team move to within 15 points (82-67) of the pace.
Bears coach Nurse held his head in his hands as time began to run out for his team.
A Myers conversion off a Martin fast break and a Richard Murphy three pointer pushed Chester 89-67 ahead with two minutes 55 seconds left and despite replies by Parillion and Demalia Stewart Bears were staring at an exit from the competition.
Myers, new Jet signing Jamal Brown and Martin shut the door in Bears' face in the final few exchanges.
Jackson drained a three pointer at the death for Brighton but it was too little too late for the visitors.
