Traders' views have been collected on whether busy shopping streets should be pedestrianised.
A North Laine Traders' Association survey found most businesses in Gardner Street, Brighton, were in favour of pedestrianisation seven days a week.
Part of Sydney Street, Brighton, is already pedestrianised and traders voted to keep it that way for seven days a week. However, they want to close the whole street to cars at weekends.
Shop owners said if the city council cracked down on people trading illegally and using streets for loading and unloading they would back closure seven days a week.
Their views will be presented to the council's traffic department.
Refuse collection times will also have to be taken into account before the council prints new traffic orders for the area.
