Tempting theatre goers with the promise of "giving more hed," this glam rock musical tells the story of Hedwig Schmidt, an East German rock 'n' roll goddess who also happens to be the victim of a botched sex change operation.
As the drama unravels through monologue and a music score inspired by the likes of David Bowie, Iggy Pop and Lou Reed, this modern day Ziggy Stardust delivers 100 minutes of pure shock 'n' roll.
The show mixes rock concert and standup, though there are also poignant overtones. It's about loneliness, gender confusion and the search for love.
Like a philosophical Rocky Horror Show, it is (rather loosely) based on the Platonic idea that we are all one half of an ideal being and that we spend life, like Hedwig, searching for our perfect match.
Best known for the cult 2001 film adaptation, Hedwig And The Angry Inch was long before a piece of groundbreaking theatre, launching on Broadway in the Nineties to mass critical acclaim. This regional performance is bought to Brighton by Surrey based Janus Theatre Company.
Starts 8pm. Tickets cost £12. Call 01273 709709.
