Repeating the formula of a wildly popular debut album would have given Royksopp a licence to print money.
As with Air, the band they're most often compared to, Svein and Torbjorn refused to do so, with limited success.
But live, most of the flaws of that follow-up, The Understanding, were banished.
Instead the duo came across like a pumped-up Kraftwerk who delight in what they do. Crucially for a dance act, they actually possess a stage presence, even if their "I'm a teapot" stances can look a little bizarre.
They were augmented by the flawless vocals of the five-month pregnant Angli and an excellent rhythm guitarist.
Circuit Breaker saw them trying to be the Pet Shop Boys, which is always welcome. Higher Place was a Balearic beauty while the widescreen Alpha Male soared.
The abrasive tone of the encore hinted at even better things to come.
