Singer-songwriter Brendan Benson has threatened to be a massive success after two blinding albums.
Of course, hes not the first power pop act to be overlooked by the mainstream Big Star, Jellyfish and Teenage Fanclub all spring to mind and Bensons output ranks with their best work.
Stardom may beckon soon in the guise of a new album with fellow Detroit resident and longtime friend Jack White of The White Stripes. Benson is a multi-instrumentalist type, so his songs all fit together very nicely and he has a great ear for bouncy, McCartneyish bass lines.
Hes no slouch when it comes to lyrics, either, as he proved with a gorgeous reworking of his first hit, Metarie.
By reputation, hes an allround nice guy and was full of praise for his support band OK Go!
If the response from the Concorde 2 cognoscenti is anything to go by, superstardom is around the corner for this particular nice guy.
