Freed from the constraints of television presenting Patrick Kielty is a very funny man.
Whereas on the box he sometimes comes across as a bit arrogant, on stage he is self-deprecating and his humour is infectious.
He kicked off his first stand-up gig in six years with a bit of audience interaction and the memorable comparison that audiences were like breasts - it didn't matter what size they were, he only played with the bit at the front.
Kielty's cohorts on Celebrity Love Island, which he presented this summer, did not escape his acerbic tongue either.
It's fair to say Abi Titmuss, Rebecca Loos and Callum Best are probably not his best buddies.
Diverse subjects such as celebrity porn videos, Paris Hilton, Neil Armstrong, the Pope and colonic irrigation were all dissected.
In short, it was nice to see Kielty spread his wings a little and allow his real comic genius to come to the fore.
