It is now, of course, 60 years since the end of the Second World War - and to celebrate, the Royal British Legion is presenting this Forties-themed dance and concert featuring live music, jive dance and even food of the decade (although hopefully cooked a little more recently).
Among those performing will be the John Miller Orchestra, apparently the only big band currently performing the music of the late Glenn Miller, the swing legend best known for such hits as Tuxedo Junction and In The Mood.
And the surname, incidentally, is no coincidence - John, the bandleader, is the nephew of the great man himself.
Also on the bill are The Ray Terry Dixieland Jazz Band, who have been performing together for 25 years (and have spent three years as resident band on the QE2 summer cruise) and military marching music from Her Majesty's Band Of The Royal Marines.
Taking care of the dance side of things will be local performance troupe the Brighton Jive Dancers and Sussex's very own Jive Aces (above), a highly energetic six-piece band who combine original material with hits from the likes of Louis Prima, Cab Calloway, Louis Armstrong and Benny Goodman.
The evening will be compered by Arthur Bostrum, best known as Officer Crabtree in the sitcom 'Allo 'Allo - so expect an element of comedy to the evening too in the form of some ludicrously mispronounced Franglais.
Starts at 7pm. Tickets cost £20 for a downstairs table or £10 for a balcony seat. Call 0870 900 9100
