I'm loath to find fault with anything The Engineers have produced since the release of minialbum Folly in 2004.
Full of huge, sweeping soundscapes and delicate, choral vocals, The Engineers' recorded music lends itself to high expectations.
So it was with sadness that I stood through the gig, watching as an unremarkable troupe of men entered stage right, donned instruments and proceeded to perform as though they thought people weren't listening.
The expected sonic tidal waves of One In Seven, Let's Just See and Ocean Spray advert soundtrack Home, failed to deliver.
Yet when the band announced everyone's favourite, Come In Out Of The Rain, the half-empty room perked up noticeably. Alas, the lacklustre live version of this album masterpiece also failed to impress.
Perhaps when they've engineered a better live sound and some charisma, I'll think about heading off to watch them again.
