A landmark library could receive a hat-trick of awards in a week.
The £14 million Jubilee Library in North Laine, Brighton, is one of 15 finalists in the running for the Prime Minister's Better Building Award, an annual architecture competition which recognises excellence in design quality and funding methods of public building schemes.
The winner will be announced today.
On Saturday, the results of the most prestigious archictectural contest will be announced. Jubilee Library is a contender to win the £20,000 Stirling Prize from the Royal Institute of British Architects.
It is one of only six buildings in Europe to be shortlisted and has been named joint favourite by bookmakers, with the McLaren Technology Centre in Surrey, to win the prize.
The library is also one of ten contenders for the Public Library Building Award from The Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals, which will be announced on October 20.
Jubilee Library has already won the following awards:
the Public Private Partnership Private Finance Initiative Award for best designed building
the Royal Institute of British Architects for Best Designed Public Building in the South East
the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers Major Project of the Year Award
a Sussex Heritage community award.
Sue John, deputy leader of Brighton and Hove City Council, said: "The whole ethos of the building is of high quality."
