The reasons provided for supposedly starting an "up for it" group to support the King Alfred developer and his famous architect read like so much hilarious dinner party banter trotted out the next day (The Argus, October 10).
saveHOVE is accused of "negativity" but it is the love for what we are so privileged to already have in Hove which drives us and our supporters.
Seafront towers would take it away from us, despoiling a chosen way of life and the gracious coastal sweep before that great thing - the sea.
Most streets off the seafront now proudly display "No Seafront Towers" posters to give the lie to the notion that most people support this scheme.
And while The Argus prefers to give publicity to a group calling themselves "Hove Up" (or is that "Up Hove"), saveHOVE has concentrated on helping people over the past three months to understand the processes and information which makes up the background and context of planning application BH2005/05594, registered on October 4 and out now for public consultation until November 21.
So far, 1,413 people have signed the petition on our Saturday table in George Street, Hove, spoken with us and learned it isn't a done deal as some sources seem to have encouraged them to believe.
These people all want to stand up for what they positively value. Their petition will be presented to full council tomorrow by Councillors Anne Giebeler and Averil Older.
