On Saturday you reported that Brighton and Hove City Council is proposing to introduce parking charges in Stanmer Park, Brighton.
The council refers to their public consultation. However, we in the Friends of Stanmer Park carried our own survey of park users, with a questionnaire which was more objectively worded and had a better response rate.
We found that 85 per cent of park users were not willing to pay for parking. Most said it was not practical for them to get to the park by public transport.
Buses only run from the city centre, not from the outlying parts of the city. To introduce parking charges in these circumstances would make the park out-of-bounds to a large proportion of the city's residents.
If any councillors or council officers still doubt the difficulties, we would like to offer them a standing invitation.
We can take them on a stroll or cycle ride from Woodingdean down the Falmer Road to Stanmer on a Saturday.
