Jake Robinson has signed up to Albion's hoped for future at Falmer by pledging his loyalty to the club until the summer of 2009.

The teenage striker has signed a three-year extension to his existing two and a half year deal, which was due to expire at the end the season.

The Argus revealed last month that Albion had opened new contract talks with Robinson.

Negotiations proved straightforward as manager Mark McGhee continues his long-term strategy of squad development.

Robinson, 18, said: "I'm pleased to sign. I was hoping to be offered something this year as my contract was up and I want to stay.

"The gaffer has shown he will give me a chance so it was never a decision whether I wanted to stay or not."

Albion will find out by the end of the month whether their stadium plans for Falmer have Government approval.

Dean Hammond has already signed a two-year contract extension and Leon Knight revealed to The Argus on Saturday his desire to settle down with the Seagulls.

McGhee said: "Given that Jake has now established himself as a permanent member of the first team squad and is now a serious contender for a place in the team I am delighted that he has committed his long-term future.

"It adds to a group of young players in this squad who I hope are going to take us into a new stadium."

Robinson, like Hammond, is a Sussex lad who has risen through the youth ranks.

Chairman Dick Knight said: "I am very pleased for Jake. I've watched his progress through the centre of excellence age groups, the youth set-up and now the first team squad.

"His new contract is a measure of his continuing potential, which we want to flourish with Albion.

"Jake is further proof that Sussex boys with talent and dedication can go far with this club.

"I'm delighted with the number of local youngsters currently in the first team squad, more than at any other time in the club's history.

"All we need now is a proper stage for them to display their skills."

Robinson has made seven starts and four substitute appearances in the first team this season. He will be on the bench for the third game in a row against Cardiff at Withdean on Saturday.
