In reply to Richard March's letter "I can't buy anything I want here", I believe he is looking in the wrong places.
There are a number of excellent outdoors shops scattered around the city to buy rain jackets.
I'm sure even George at Asda might sell them (although I've not looked there).
Fuse wire can be had from many of the smaller electrical retailers.
As for hot water bottles, did he try BHS?
Lampshades - again BHS or any of the specialist lighting places which are all over the city.
It is a great shame when someone writes off a city because they can't get what they want. There are many excellent stores in every part of Brighton and Hove, selling everything imaginable.
To say you can't find what you want in such a cosmopolitan city is sad. As for the comments about the population of the country, that is nothing short of small-minded bigotry.
