A supermarket chain has signed up to move into a new development.
Tesco Express is coming to the Jubilee Street development, incorporating the award-winning £14 million central library, in Brighton.
The chain exchanged contracts with Ellandi development consultancy, which is responsible for leasing out units, on Wednesday.
The Argus reported on Tuesday that traders and residents in Hove are growing increasingly concerned about Tesco's increasing grip on the area. It has six stores in Hove, with the Church Road superstore planning to introduce a car wash.
Independent traders in the North Laine fear chain stores taking over the Jubilee Street development will destroy the unique character of the area.
But Mark Robinson, development consultant for Ellandi, said the development would benefit the area.
