It is not often the theatre provides an evening of unadulterated fun. But that is the case with The Titfield Thunderbolt.
The talented cast, headed by the ageless Kate O'Mara, gently send up the old Ealing Comedy and it works beautifully.
As the feisty Lady Edna Chesterfield O'Mara leads the campaign to save their beloved railway and keep the steam train running.
Her cohorts are Steven Pinder (best known as Max Farnham in Brookside), who is very well cast in the dual role of Town Clerk, and the Reverend Sam Weeks, Philip Reed and Loveday Smith.
The villain of the piece who does everything to thwart their plans is Paul Leonard.
Apart from Miss O'Mara and Pinder, who just plays two roles, the cast change from one character to another with amazing speed.
The special effects - Lady Chesterfield's car, a steamroller, a magnificent train - and the final appearance of the famous Titfield Thunderbolt on a versatile set adds to the enjoyment of the evening.
Directed by the creator of Return To The Forbidden Planet, Bob Carlton, this is a production to please all the family.
Running until Saturday, call 01323 412000 for times and tickets.
