In view of the bitter controversy about the new King Alfred complex, it is a pity the council did not follow the sensible procedure adopted by Hove Borough Council when it rebuilt Portland Gate.
Three alternative plans were presented to the people, who were asked to decide which one best met their wishes.
The result is the present building, which appears to be well-accepted by most.
