I am of small stature and have had two major back operations, which have left me in constant pain but I still manage to live a full life and work full-time for Sussex Police.
I work shifts and, like everyone else, find parking in my area very difficult. I have a disabled bay outside my house and, though I understand it is not my personal space, I am disgusted when I see so many able-bodied people park there without a badge.
Even when people do have a disable badge, the photo is not of them and, when questioned, they say they are just going to collect the person it belongs to.
The system needs to be changed. When I last got my blue badge renewed I was told by the office at Hove there are 11,000 blue badge holders in Brighton and Hove but at least 3,000 are fraudulent.
I work at a front desk and am frustrated when I see so many able-bodied people who come in to report them lost or stolen in order to get a reference number, so they can get another one.
They then go out of the doors and are able to run up the steps.
I wish I could do that.
It should go back to the orange badge system, when you had to have the vehicle registration number on the card.
If you ask any disabled person, they would prefer to have good health than a blue badge, so why should a person who is not disabled have both?
