An application to extend opening hours at a nightspot has been refused.
Management at Waves, in George Street, Hastings, wanted permission to open until 5am at weekends.
But Hastings Borough Council rejected the application after crime and disorder fears.
The refusal was the first since the licensing committee was formed earlier this year.
Chairman Phil Scott said: "When we looked at this application from Waves in George Street, we were very mindful of the strong objections made by the police and residents living near the club.
"The club has a history of problems over a long period of time, some of which are still being investigated by Sussex Police, and, although the manager gave us assurances, we were not satisfied that the improvements would be enough to allow us to grant longer drinking hours."
