Disadvantaged neighbourhoods are to get £5.5 million to cut crime and antisocial behaviour.
Brighton and Hove is to get £3.9 million of neighbourhood renewal funding between 2006 and 2008 and £1.6 million from the Government's Safer And Stronger Communities Fund during the next four years.
The city's 2020 community partnership, made up of representatives from the police, council, health and voluntary organisations, will decide exactly how the money is spent.
It should help improve health and education services and lower levels of crime.
Neighbourhood renewal funding has already paid for the redevelopment of the Millwood community centre in Carlton Hill, Brighton.
