The Argus 1960s supplement mentioned Transport Minister Dr Beeching devastating Sussex's railway network, plus under-investment and neglect, which today is increasingly regretted as our county faces chaos on the roads (Celebrating 125 Years, September 24).
Perhaps rising fuel costs may stop a future Secretary of State for Transport wasting money on roads and instead provide investment on expanding Sussex's totally inadequate skeleton rail network?
The Argus reports "Train times improve" (September 27) but this is an illusion because timetables are reshuffled, trains cancelled plus a number of station stops reduced to speed up congested services on overcrowded track.
