Albion are trying to sign a Premiership leftback on loan as cover and competition for Kerry Mayo following Dan Harding's summer move to Leeds.

Manager Mark McGhee is also still keen to bring in another central defender as back-up to Guy Butters and Paul McShane.

The Seagulls cannot make any more permanent signings until the transfer window re-opens in January.

McGhee is happy with the way his draw specialists are performing in the Championship but he will try to use the two-week break after today's home game against Norwich to strengthen his defensive options.

"We worry about the centre halve positions and the leftback position concerns me," McGhee revealed.

"I think we need another leftback, as has been shown by having to play Paul Reid there.

"We need someone to at least put Kerry under pressure, if not to win his place.

"We are still working and looking. I spoke to somebody yesterday morning about the possibility of a loan player.

"We are trying hard to find these players but it's not easy. We do have somebody in mind for the leftback position and maybe before the next game we will have someone here.

"But again it is someone who, wages wise coming from a Premier League club, is expensive. We are trying to do a deal that makes it sensible for us."
