Once upon a time, Brighton had a proper music library, with miniature scores, sheet music, reference works, periodicals, CDs, cassettes and space to display concert flyers and information on local music societies.
In the Jubilee Street library, the CDs are housed well away from the residual stock of scores and books.
The unity and cohesion of the old Church Street music library have been completely lost.
Our library managers, backed by an ill-informed vote by the culture sub-committee, now want to destroy the integrity of the Hove music library by moving CDs downstairs and bringing non-music material upstairs.
This must not happen. Library managers and councillors should think again.
-Councillor Kevin Allen, Brighton
