It is interesting to note that two buildings Frank Gehry has built in Los Angeles are not so revered.
His Santa Monica Shopping Mall is facing demolition as it is disliked by local residents who say it does not mesh with their city's outdoor beach environment.
His plans for Hove certainly would not harmonise with the elegant buildings here, but would just overpower them in height, size and bulk.
Another of his buildings at University College, Irvine, is being demolished because of leaking roofs, failing ventilation systems and structural dry rot.
This should make us all think very carefully about Gehry's King Alfred development. Remember, once built, we'll be stuck with it until it falls down.
