A teenage singer who has made it through the X Factor television show's tough judging process is to face her next big challenge.

Jamie-Lee Church, from Portslade, wowed the panel on the TV talent contest at the weekend.

After her audition in front of Simon Cowell, Louis Walsh and Sharon Osbourne, Jamie-Lee was offered a place at the X Factor boot camp. She was one of 40 performers chosen from 75,000 applicants.

The 19-year-old will now receive training from expert singers and musicians before competing against other hopefuls trying to become the next pop sensation.

Jamie-Lee impressed the notoriously difficult judges by singing Tracks Of My Tears and Killing Me Softly.

Her audition was shown on Saturday afternoon on the X-tra Factor, the X- Factor's sister show on ITV2.

She said: "I was in there for ages. They said loads of stuff. Simon Cowell really liked me. Louis thought I might be better in a girl band like Girls Aloud.

"They compared me to Charlotte Church because of my name and because we're both Welsh. I said I look completely different and I am a completely different type of performer.

"They talked for ages then they all said 'you're through'.

"They said some bad things as well. I wore a brown dress that was quite short. They told me I have got to dress down and look more casual next time."

Originally from Milford Haven, South Wales, Jamie-Lee moved to Brighton at the age of 12 and hails from a long line of Welsh choristers and musicians.

At 20 her mother Angela was offered a recording contract but turned it down because she had two children to look after.

Jamie-Lee lives in Portslade with her mum and brother Daniel, 15.
