I was dismayed that the Gehry flats have come one step closer, with Brighton and Hove City Council giving tacit approval to the scheme.
Brighton and Hove are very special seaside places but some terrible planning decisions have been made in the past. Brighton's marvellous seafront has been spoilt by the ugly leisure complex and high-rise blocks of flats.
I am not an opponent of Frank Gehry's work per se. His Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao is a work of genius but what is proposed for Hove is larger.
If the scheme was smaller in scale, it might become a wonderful addition to the town's seafront.
If the people of Brighton and Hove feel strongly enough, they should oppose this scheme, not only protecting their city but retaining the quintessential quality of a very special place.
