Sussex are close to agreeing a deal with fast bowler Rana Naved which would tie him to the county for the next two seasons.
The 28-year-old Pakistani reached 50 Championship wickets in only his ninth game against Kent at Hove yesterday.
Outgoing director of cricket Peter Moores says negotiations are progressing well and Rana's agent is due at the County Ground today for further negotiations.
Rana's appearances next year will be curtailed if he is chosen for Pakistan's tour of England, which starts in June.
But Sussex are anxious to tie him to the club for an extended period and the feeling is mutual.
Rana, who finished with 4-83 as Kent were bowled out for 257 said: "It's my first year in county cricket and I've enjoyed it very much. The guys here have helped make me feel welcome and I have enjoyed the challenge.
"The facilities and organisation of the club are excellent and I would like to stay with Sussex. I'm sure we will be able to come to an agreement."
James Kirtley claimed 4-53 as Sussex aimed for runners-up spot in the Championship
