A football club is offering £500 to dig out a mole.

Secret information about Crawley Town FC is being leaked and bosses are determined to find the culprit's identity.

General manager Paul Hobbs posted a message on the club's fan web site ctfc.net calling for those who know who the mole is to tell the club.

The message says: "Over the last few months confidential information regarding the club has been reported on this site and other mediums.

"We want to know who the 'mole' is. We will offer a £500 cash reward to the person who tells us who the mole is. Confidentiality assured."

Fans have responded with surprise to the posting but the identity of the so-called mole is still not known.

Some fans have backed the club's move while others are confused.

One wrote: "For Paul to come on the forum offering a reward for a so-called mole smacks of a lack of security within the club's hierarchy.

"If confidential information is being leaked then I would humbly suggest that only those that need to know are told. That way if information gets out the source is limited."

Another said football was well known for leaks - usually from insiders and agents.

Mr Hobbs said: "It is something we take seriously and if the reward helps us find out who the mole is then it will be money well spent.

"We have had a lot of responses as a lot of people want the money but there has been no confirmation yet.

"I have my suspicions but the investigation is continuing.

"The problem is that things are getting out before they have even been confirmed.

"We might talk about something in a meeting and no decision is made - but the next thing we know, it has got out.

"But it is not just that. There is the tactical side as well. If we have just made an important new signing we don't want the championship team we might be playing to know well in advance as they could change their tactics accordingly."

The club has not confirmed which stories it has concerns about but the SA Group took over the club this summer and that news, along with the signing of striker Daryl Clare, are among the tales believed to have been leaked.
