Brighton and Hove City Council has narrowly voted to allow Gehry's towers to proceed to the planning stage.

The decision was not taken on the merits of the design but forced through by politics. Labour councillors were intent on voting as one body regardless of what residents think or the consequences the decision could have for Hove.

I am amazed the Green Party, considering its righteous theology concerning the Falmer Stadium project, can go along with such an outlandish project.

The same can be said about Adam Trimingham, who supported the decision in his column last week.

I am sure that had Hove Council remained a separate body from that of Brighton, this decision would have been opposed.

Now that Labour councillors have nailed their colours firmly to the mast in voting unanimously for this folly, hopefully the voters of Brighton and Hove can see for themselves that this project is being pushed through by political stealth and not on architectural merit.

As it is so difficult in some areas of the city to get permission to fit even a Velox window in a roof, I hope the planning department sticks to its strict guidelines and turns down this out-of-place design.
