There is no doubt that baroque specialists Red Priest, based at Lewes, certainly know how to put on an effective show.
In their latest piece, Pirates Of The Baroque, a curtaincraiser to the Brighton Early Music Festival which opens on October 1, they gave spirited renditions of rare works by Bach, Handel, Telemann and others, treating the audience to some lost gems of the baroque period.
Dressed in pirate outfits, they leapt around the performing area jigging and strutting as they played their violin, cello and recorders to the accompaniment of a finely-played harpsichord.
With wailing violin, roaring recorders and some excellent cello work, they brought these lost gems splendidly alive and included some of the more rare slow pieces which beautifully echoed around St Georges Church.
