Regarding the lack of safety at the pedestrian crossing at the Clock Tower in Brighton, I think pedestrians do not get the green light to cross North Street frequently enough.

The intervals between displaying the green man are so long that people get impatient and, seeing no traffic coming from North Street or Western Road, believe it is safe to cross.

However, they do not think about the traffic coming from West Street, and in particular from Queens Road.

If the interval between crossing opportunities was reduced, there would be far fewer accidents and near accidents.
