I am writing to thank The Argus for publishing the front-page article about Omar Deghayes and the treatment of prisoners at Guantanamo Bay (The Argus, September 15).
None of them have been charged with any offence but this article helped bring to the public's attention details of this appalling situation, which have been known to organisations, such as Amnesty International and our own Government, for many months.
The Government has a duty to put whatever pressure is necessary on the US authorities to ensure that Omar Deghayes is either charged with a legitmate offence or released back to the UK - and not Libya, where it is likely he would be killed.
Allegations of torture during his detention must also be investigated and those found responsible brought to justice.
The US authorities cannot be allowed to flout international law in this way and our Government, as one of its closest allies, must say so, loud and clear.
