Colin Kazim-Richards is celebrating his first goal for Albion after manager Mark McGhee gave his flashy footwear the boot.

Supersub Kazim-Richards changed from wearing gold or white boots to a black pair for Saturday's home game against Coventry.

It paid off as the young striker scored with his first touch after replacing Jake Robinson early in the second half to earn the Seagulls a 2-2 draw.

McGhee said: "Colin has been looking better and better, even to the point where he came in with a low profile pair of boots. His boots were standard black issue, rather than gold with lasers shining out of them with mother of pearl studs!

"These are small things but they play on my mind and I think they work on the opposition as well. He came in with a more sensible approach and when he came on he got a terrific goal and looked a good player. He's stamped a claim on a place now."

Kazim-Richards, bought from Bury in the summer with some of the £250,000 won for the club by fan Aaron Berry in a Coca-Cola competition, revealed: "The gaffer told me to change my boots.

"We had a little meeting and he thinks because I'm a new signing and I've got that bracket of Coca-Cola Kid, defenders are going to work harder against me, not only because of that but because I've got white boots.

"I wore Adidas Predators, which I don't like, but I scored in them and I'll be wearing them in the next game."

Alan Blayney, re-signed from Southampton on a month's loan as cover for back injury victim Wayne Henderson, is favourite to stay in goal at Burnley on Saturday.

McGhee said: "Wayne is a lot better. He may be fit and then we have got a decision to make."
