On Sunday, Brighton and Hove hosted a motorbike rally with thousands of bikes and riders.
Good for the economy of the city, the council will say, but at what cost to the residents?
The whole length of the street in which I live had bikes parked on the pavement, some blocking residents' front doors and making it impossible to walk along.
Traffic wardens patrolled the street and blatantly ignored the illegally parked bikes.
When I queried this with the wardens, they told me they had been instructed by the council to ignore illegally parked bikes if they were not causing a danger.
Surely they were a danger.
If a disabled or blind person had tried to walk down the street, it could have resulted in a serious accident.
There is not one day in the year when a council-tax-payer of this city can park illegally without fear of a fine or even being towed away. It's about time the council thought of the residents.
