As a former member of Her Majesty's Forces who served in the Suez Canal Zone, with a medal to prove it, I would like to bring to the attention of other Suez Veterans a book written by Douglas J Findlay.
Entitled White Knees Brown Knees, Doug's book is guaranteed to raise a smile as one is reminded of the flies, mosquitoes, dhobi wallahs and primitive toilet facilities.
Anyone who got their "knees brown" in the Canal Zone will recall experiences in places such as Tel-el-Kebir, Ismailia, Fayid and Geniefa. The book will swiftly bring back memories of 50 years ago.
There is, however, a serious side to the book because it also reveals the true fate of hundreds of National Servicemen who died while on active service in 1951-1955.
It also exposes the lies and deceit perpetrated by the MOD, Government and ministers at that time.
