I was shocked and disappointed when I received my final edition of the bi-monthly magazine Phoenix, which has kept residents from Bates Estate, Higher Bevendean, Manor Farm, Moulsecoomb, Saunders Park and, of course, Whitehawk, informed about what is going on in these areas.

I spent five years on the Whitehawk estate, helping with the community and got to know many people living there and in Moulsecoomb. As someone who delivered Phoenix come rain or shine, I got to know how the community worked together and brought numerous improvements.

I also had experience in working voluntarily with EB4U, formerly New Deal for Communities. This was set up with £47 million from the Government over a ten-year period to improve the standard of living, as well as work, education and policing.

There was a board of directors, consisting of people who have been elected from the estates, plus professionals, to manage all the money.

Surely the board could have found finances to support such a great magazine and one which kept so many informed about so much?

It was with sadness I learnt this lovely, informative news magazine had ceased printing.

I am writing in the hope this letter will get people thinking and lead them to ask why this has happened.

Living now in Eastbourne, I looked forward to hearing what was going on throughout these estates, which always seem to get a bad press. There is so much good going on throughout these communities, how are we going to hear about it now?
